Leh, lady Leh

Our "special" yearly feature on the Zanskar river is at an end. The drives through most of western Ladakh with ancient monasteries, palaces, villages and hikes will form surreal memories and dreams away from our daily lives.

Our trip begins with a either a flight over the Himalayas or an amazing jeep ride into the Trans-Himalayan region of Ladakh in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. We then spent a couple of days in Leh town acclimatizing at 11,000 feet above sea level whilst visiting the ancient monasteries, around Leh.

Loading the bus we then take the road west of Leh climbing mountain passes and stopping for the night in Kargil before we travel south into the valley of Zanskar, one of the coldest inhabited places on earth, the river freezes in winter and the only route in or out in to walk in teh ice river at -40. Starting the trip on the Stod river, we begin our self contained multi-day river adventure down the spectacular and scenic Zanskar river gorge. Rafts carry all our gear as we paddle from the rivers birth, until its flows in chaos and mumbles to the Indus. The trip takes took us down the extremely desolate, remote and sheer Zanskar gorge with walls rising a few thousand feet out of the river bed, culminating on the mighty Indus river.

Undoubtedly a classic, this journey to the last truly lost horizon of our shrinking planet - Zanskar, the "land of white copper" is a trip of a lifetime. We cant wait to show people the joys again in 2012 - contact us now for more details, to secure your place or just to chat.
